Pastor Roger Taylor was born in Wiggins, MS, and the youngest of three children.  His parents were C. D. (Doug) & Margie Taylor, two of the most Godly parents a child could ask for.  He was brought up from infancy to be in Ebenezer Baptist Church every time the doors were open.

On May 19, 1971 as a 9 year old boy, Roger was under deep conviction by the Holy Spirit that he was a wretched sinner in need of salvation after hearing a visiting preacher in a Wednesday night service at Ebenezer.  After talking to his parents, he knelt beside his bed and repented of his sins and asked Jesus Christ to save his soul.  His life and eternity was changed forever.  He was baptized in August 1971 by the authority of Ebenezer in one of the coldest streams in Mississippi.  His childhood and youth were filled with aggravating his older sisters Myra and Carol, and with outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, gardening, cutting firewood, farm work and all kinds of sports.  He played quarterback in football and ran long distance in track for the Stone County Tomcats, although his athletic career was certainly not star studded.

After graduating from Stone County High School in 1980, Roger attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College - Perkinston Campus for two years.  He then transferred to Mississippi State University, graduating in 1985 with a B.S. in Wood Science and Technology and a B.B.A in Business Management.  Upon graduation he moved back home and began working in Quality Control as a Management Trainee at Leaf River Forest Products Sawmill in New Augusta, MS.  Beginning in late 1985 or early 1986, Roger began to be troubled by the Lord about what he was supposed to be doing with his life.  After several months of prayer and seeking to understand God's will for his life, he surrendered to preach on the first Sunday of July, 1986 on the first day of a revival meeting at Ebenezer.  In August 1986 he enrolled at Gulf Coast Baptist Institute in Theodore, AL and over the next three years he took theological and ministerial training courses to better prepare for ministry.

In 1984, Roger met Debra Beard when her family moved from Arkansas when her dad became Pastor at Ebenezer.  Her family consisted of her parents, Donald and Louise Beard, and brothers, Jared and David.  Roger and Debra began a four year courtship which resulted in their marriage in August, 1988.  He admits that he totally "outkicked his coverage," to use a football phrase, when he married Debra.  They are so thankful to God that He saw fit to unite them and allow them to share life and love together for all these years.  Debra works as a Nurse Practitioner and is a very talented musician and devoted wife and mother.

Roger served as Associate Pastor at Ebenezer for about a year, before moving to Greenwood, MS to Pastor Eastgate Baptist Church in November, 1989.  While there the Taylors were blessed by the birth of their daughter Carmen in December 1990.  Debra finished Nursing school at Delta State University and began her Nursing career.

In October, 1993 the Taylors moved to Madison, MS as Roger accepted the pastorate of Victory Baptist Church.  In January, 1994 they were blessed by the birth of their son Adam.  The entire Taylor family is thankful for the blessings of God on Victory Baptist Church and looks forward to the future together serving the Lord.
